Today, I was sent the following email from the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence:
"Two weeks ago, Georgia was found to have the sixth-highest homicide rate in the nation for women killed by men, according to a study released by the Violence Policy Center. As we once again mark October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are reminded of how far we've come and how much work remains to be done. Today, our call for an end to abuse, for a commitment to prevention, and in support of local programs is echoed by the President of the United States. It is our pleasure to forward the proclamation, recently released from President Obama in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Each October, we remember the many lives that were cut short by domestic violence during the past year. We applaud the advocates in domestic violence programs and our allies throughout Georgia who with tireless compassion and dedication help create opportunities for the safety, liberty and dignity of survivors everywhere." -----
The statistics for the state of Georgia are appalling, but the GCADV is working to stop violence and protect victims.
